Day Two

Nothing interesting to report today so I am just going to list what I have eaten today so that Vi can advise me.....

Breakfast: 3 shredded wheat with semi-skimmed milk( using it up before I buy the skimmed variety). A sprinkling of Tesco's own sweetner....it needs it!!

Lunch: tuna and sweetcorn on brown (tesco's finest!...I was there buying dinner) and a braeburn apple....I love these apples-sweet and crunchy!

Dinner: chicken breast (butterflied then pan-fried in a little sesame oil and chargrill seasoning), salad, couscous and coleslaw.

I had my dinner earlier than usual so by 8.30 I was feeling peckish. A quick walk to my local asian friend's corner shop and I was soon in the possession of a packet of Warburton's crumpets!
It says on the packet that there is less than 1% of fat....on closer inspection it also says : CARBOHYDRATE 20.9g(per crumpet) of which sugars 0.9g
What the hell does that mean? Well they are under the grill now so if they are bad for me I will have to find another healthier snack.....I do like cottage cheese and ryvitas....will buy them in next week's "big shop".

Day Two....done!

Okay breakfast, fine, but as I said, get the skim milk. The sweetener is better than putting sugar on it!

Brown Tesco's finest what? Brown bread I gather? Is that a sandwich you picked up? You need to explain more....

Dinner - Sounds good, but not in sesame oil. Cook in spray oil instead. Did you actually cook it yourself, or was it one of these ready meals? Gotta specify ready meals or not. Ready meals are a no no by the way. Did you make the couscous yourself? What sort of coleslaw?

Snacks. Avoid the crumpets. They may not be that bad, but it's what you will be putting on them! Like butter! Air popped popcorn is good to snack on. Along with fruit and vege.

Vi: I was refering to a Tesco's finest sandwich on brown bread...only two slices!

I did cook the chicken myself...I never buy ready meals as they are always too small and full of crap.I take your point about the sesame oil. I will buy some spray oil next week.
The couscous was ready made with roasted vegetables. Will buy some dried nxt week and attempt to make my own although I do like the flavoured varieties.
The crumpets were a quick fix as I had no veg or fruit in. I never use butter...at the moment I am using Flora lite margerine.

I really do appreciate you taking time out to comment here Vi and i am noting everything you tell me.

Cheers x

If you are going to choose a takeaway meal from tesco's go for the healthy living variety. Actually try to avoid bread altogether. Take away sushi is great!

LOL at the margarine. It's nearly as bad a butter. It's fat. Avoid.

Remember, you can buy couscous flavouring from the spice section of tescos. Or just set the couscous in chicken stock and squeeze some lemon juice and put some chopped fresh coriander in it. Yum!

Vi: What do I put on my sarnies if I can't have margerine or bread??

Vi vi vi vooom!!!!!!!! said...

You no longer have sarnies!!!!!!

Ryvita's, krisp rolls, with laughing cow cheese (light of course) instead of butter. Love them with ham and mustard. Just as quick as making a sandwich but better for you!

Vi: Picture the seen....

it's "big shop" day at Tesco's and I am asking a spotty 16yr old shelf stacker

"excuse me please, where do you keep your laughing cow cheese?"

Can't wait! lol

and good luck Stephen. I think Vi knows what she is talking about.

I smile every time I see or hear Laughing Cow cheese :)

Good luck, Stephen. I'm learning from what Vi's telling you so I hope the two of you keep it up.

With sugar on my cereals and sugar in my tea/coffee, I went cold turkey. It was horrible for a week or so, but now I can't stand the thought of sugared cereals or sweet tea/coffee.

Stephen - I'll give you a hint, it's in the dairy cabinet! lol. The extra light soft cream cheeses are good for you as well. You should do your shopping online, that way you just type in what I tell you to get and they'll find it for you!

LW - You've got a lovely figure and don't have a problem with bread, which is great!

ME - Yep, I find a lot of people benefit a lot by not eating bread.

Sorry for taking over your comment box stephen!

Thought I'd join in here as I do work with clients who use food to eat the anger as a way to cope. So although not being my job in the way it's vi's I do some work as part of their therapy.

What I tell people is, eat what you want to eat, cause the minute you try and control what you should be eating you start craving all the very food you're trying to stop.

But there are rules here. Only eat from a small plate, sit at the table, always, for everything you eat.Take a mouthful and put your fork, hand down till you have finished what is in your mouth. And only then take up the next mouthful.

Because we need to psycholically eat a full plate of food, if you are filling a desert plate, with stuff then you your mind excepts this and doesn't feel as hungry as if you have big spaces on an ordainary plate with the cut down amount of food you are trying to go for.

Keeping a food diary helps, not just to look at what you eat but more how you felt about eating, bored, lonely, sad etc, cause most people do not see the correlation between the two, but it is when we are not as happy as we would like to be that we eat more.

This way you are eating with your stomach and not your eyes, and so you get full properly and need less food.

Finally if you know you eat from boredom then find something else to do for the 7 minutes the craving lasts. Running up and down stairs is particularly good as it moves your mind, and by the time your out of puff you don't want to eat! Also it's simple exercise that will help your metabloic rate.

Food is something we need to keep us alive, not something just to fill our faces, and when treated with respect as a life giving force then food becomes a pleasure and we loose weight beacause we don't eat so much crap,as we are respecting food and ourselves.

Very very finally,if you have to have fish and chips or whatever try deciding how much you should eat before you start and throw the restaway!!!!

Good luck!
px

I think you're doing well by the sounds of it stephen. Would it be an inspiration to you to post a pic of the scales showing your weight number (with you on them obviously) once a week? If you can actually see the numbers coming down that will help.

Also, pixie talks a lot of sense - though vi keeping such a strict eye on you has got to help :-)

I cant believe you thought crumpets could ever be part of a diet!!!! Like Vi said, fruit and veg, but watch the fruit too as that can be quite high calorifically.

have you stopped eating altogether and wasted away on us...?
